The Boulder High Panthers bounced back in a big way Thursday morning, battling past the Glencoe Tide 7-5 in Arizona to pick up their first win of the season and even their record at 1-1.
After a tough home-opening loss to Centaurus, the Panthers responded with a complete team performance, combining timely hitting, clean defense, and strong pitching to secure the win.
Early Offense Sets the Tone
Boulder wasted no time taking control, breaking the game open with a four-run second inning before adding two more in the third to build a 6-1 lead. The Panthers continued to apply pressure at the plate, collecting 11 hits and consistently putting runners on base.
Senior Rowan Westfall led the way at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple, and an RBI. Sophomore Nick Dubofsky delivered a breakout performance, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs, and a run scored, driving in key runs during Boulder's early surge.
Junior Finn Torvik continued his strong start to the season, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and a double, while senior Toby Schoenfeld added two hits, including a double, and a stolen base.
The Panthers also got contributions up and down the lineup, with Chance Gauss adding two hits and Maks Matheson driving in a run as Boulder kept the pressure on Glencoe pitching.
Pitching and Defense Hold Strong
On the mound, Boulder pieced together a solid outing. Connor Bagnall carried the bulk of the workload, going 4.2 innings while striking out six to earn the win.
Toby Schoenfeld was sharp in relief, tossing 1.1 innings and allowing just one hit with three strikeouts, helping shut down Glencoe during a key stretch of the game.
The Panthers also played clean, mistake-free baseball in the field, posting a perfect defensive game with no errors, a major improvement from their previous outing. That defensive consistency proved critical as Glencoe attempted to rally late.
Holding Off the Rally
Glencoe chipped away with runs in the middle and late innings, pulling within two, but Boulder never let the game slip away. The Panthers added an insurance run in the sixth inning and closed the door in the seventh to secure the 7–5 win.
The Takeaway
It was the kind of response Boulder needed early in the season - a balanced effort, improved defense, and production throughout the lineup. After coming up just short in their opener, the Panthers showed resilience and composure to finish this one off.
Boulder will look to build on that momentum as they continue tournament play in Arizona, with another matchup on deck later today vs Emmett High School at 12:30 PM.
