The Boulder High Panthers baseball team opened its home schedule Friday afternoon at Scott Carpenter Park, but despite a strong start and several standout performances, the Panthers came up just short in a 6–5 loss to the Centaurus Warriors.
Boulder jumped out quickly in the early innings, putting pressure on the Warriors right away. The Panthers plated two runs in the first and two more in the second, taking a 4–3 lead after Centaurus answered with a three-run second inning. Boulder added another run in the third to extend the lead to 5–3, putting themselves in position to take control of the game.
Finn Torvik
But Centaurus slowly chipped away. The Warriors scored once in the fourth inning, then added runs in the sixth and seventh to pull ahead late and spoil Boulder's home opener.
Despite the result, the Panthers showed plenty of energy at the plate and on the basepaths. Finn Torvik was one of Boulder's most productive players, reaching base three times in four plate appearances while adding two stolen bases, a run scored, and an RBI. Senior Maks Matheson also had a strong afternoon, going 2-for-3 and swiping a base.
Teague Bagnall
Boulder collected seven hits on the day, including a double from Sam Skubic, while several players contributed key runs. Toby Schoenfeld, Max Daily, Connor Bagnall, and Torvik each crossed the plate as the Panthers built their early advantage.
On the mound, Connor Bagnall got the start and kept the Panthers in the game early, while Nick Dubofsky came on in relief to close out the final innings. Dubofsky struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings, helping Boulder stay within striking distance as the Warriors mounted their late comeback.

The Panthers also showed aggressiveness on the bases, stealing five bases as a team, with Torvik leading the way with two.
Centaurus improves to 2-0 to start the season, while Boulder drops its home opener but showed flashes of an offense capable of producing runs and creating pressure on opposing defenses.
The Panthers will look to bounce back when they travel to face Glencoe on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m., as Boulder continues its early-season schedule.
