Panthers Go the Full 8 on the Mustangs

Senior Neva Woodson

On a perfect spring evening at Recht Field, Boulder High girls soccer bounced back in a big way with a commanding 8–0 win over the visiting Mountain Range Mustangs. Coming off a tough 1–0 loss to Broomfield last week, the Panthers looked sharp and energized as they opened league play with authority.

Mountain Range entered the match 7-1 and riding a three-game winning streak, with 26 goals scored in their first eight games. But from the opening whistle, Boulder looked ready to reset and refocus. Despite dealing with multiple injuries and a reshuffled lineup, Coach Carlos Real had his squad prepared. He urged composure and possession, and after a few nervous early minutes, the Panthers settled in.

At the 17:30 mark, Boulder struck first. Off a corner from Mia DeJohn, Neva Woodson rose above the defense and buried a header into the far top corner—earning Coach Real's signature "pineapple" for any goal scored with the head.

Less than seven minutes later, Boulder doubled the lead. DeJohn found Zoe Silver, who challenged the keeper and redirected the ball into the net. At 25:15, Silver set up Tula Gonzalez on a perfectly timed inside run—Gonzalez finished with her left foot, curling a shot just inside the far post to make it 3–0.

The highlight of the half came at the 30-minute mark. Sylvie Rowe stepped in front of a Mountain Range pass at midfield and immediately sent a lofted ball over the top to Kiri Fogarty-Sears, who one-timed it from 20 yards out over the rushing keeper and just under the crossbar. A beautiful strike that capped an impressive first half—Boulder went into the break up 4–0.

The Panthers wasted no time after halftime. At 47:30, Kinley Kripke raced down the right flank and laid a pass back to Silver. With a slick turn to shake her defender, Silver buried her second of the night, low and right from close range.

Boulder continued to rotate players in but didn't take their foot off the gas.

At 73:15, Fogerty-Sears beat her defender to the end line and played a sharp ball back to DeJohn, who struck it one-time from the penalty spot to make it 6–0.

Just two minutes later, Tula Gonzalez picked up the ball at the center circle and slipped a pass to Fogarty-Sears, who was making an inside run down the right side. Fogarty-Sears took a touch to her left and curled her shot past the keeper, low and inside the far post for her second goal of the night.

In the final minutes, Coach Real moved senior center back Neva Woodson—who had been anchoring the defense all night—into a forward role. Elle Ceres, recently verbally committed to Boston University, played a ball from midfield into Woodson's path. With space in front of her, Woodson carried the ball forward, cut past three defenders, and finished low and left from just outside the 12-yard box. Her second goal of the match sealed the 8–0 scoreline.

It was a quiet night for senior keeper Maisie Creamer, who recorded her fifth shutout of the season. While she didn't register any saves on the stat sheet, she stayed active, organizing her back line and helping preserve the clean sheet.
