Panthers Win Rivalry Thriller Again, Edge Fairview 2-1

Lia Stoddard

The Boulder High girls soccer team kept its recent run over cross-town rival Fairview alive Friday night, knocking off the Knights 2-1 for the Panthers' third straight win in the rivalry.

That matters in this series.

Going back to 2009, Boulder is now 4-12 against Fairview in matches with recorded scores. After beating the Knights 2-1 last night, the Panthers have now won three in a row after also taking the last two meetings, 1-0 in 2025 and 2-1 in 2024. Before this current stretch, Boulder had dropped nine straight to Fairview from 2014 through 2023. Boulder's only other win in the series dating back to 2009 that span came back in 2013, a 2–1 victory.

Friday's result added another big chapter to that turnaround.

Boulder struck first in the 17th minute when Ane Mackey found the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. From there, the match settled into the kind of back-and-forth battle this rivalry usually brings, with both sides fighting for control and neither team giving much away.

Fairview found an equalizer in the second half and suddenly had the momentum, but Boulder answered quickly. In the middle of a chaotic stretch inside the box, Lia Stoddard reacted first to a loose ball and buried the go-ahead goal to put the Panthers back in front, 2-1.

That proved to be the winner.

From there, Boulder locked in defensively and saw out the final minutes, with the Panthers holding their shape and doing enough to keep Fairview from finding a second equalizer.

The win pushes Boulder to 2-1 on the season and keeps the Panthers moving in the right direction early in the spring. More importantly, it gives Boulder another rivalry win in a series that has become much more competitive over the last three seasons.

For a program that spent years chasing Fairview, the Panthers are now the team walking away with the result.

Next Up: The Panthers travel to Silver Creek on March 31 for a 6:00 PM game.
