Girls Soccer Beats Fairview 1-0 in Classic at Recht

On a clear, crisp night at Christian Recht Field, Boulder High School's girls soccer team won the game that means more than any other — the rivalry match against Fairview. The Panthers came out on top 1-0 thanks to a late moment of brilliance from senior Mia DeJohn, earning their second straight win over the Knights after snapping a decade-long drought last season.

Rivalry Intensity from the Start

The two teams came in evenly matched, but this game is never just about standings. Boulder–Fairview is the one match players circle on the calendar, and it showed from the opening whistle.

Boulder had the better of play in the first seven or eight minutes, moving the ball well and pressing high. After that, the match settled into a physical back-and-forth, with both teams trading possession and battling hard in midfield.

Midway through the first half, Fairview nearly broke the deadlock. A scramble in front of the Boulder goal ended with a shot off the crossbar and a bouncing rebound that landed on top of the net. The home crowd held its breath, thinking it was in — but the score remained 0-0.

Neither side created many clean looks for the rest of the half, which ended scoreless.

DeJohn Delivers Late Game-Winner

The second half picked up where the first left off — gritty, even, and largely contested in the middle third. Both teams looked for an opening, but shots on goal were few and far between. As the clock ticked down inside ten minutes, the crowd began to settle into the idea that this one might end in a draw.

Then, with just 3:30 remaining, Boulder was awarded a free kick about 40 yards out, slightly to the keeper's right. As players lined up expecting a cross, Mia DeJohn spotted a chance and took it. She struck a bending ball up and over the wall, on frame, and beat the keeper to the right corner of the net.

The Boulder sideline erupted. But there was still time left to defend. Fairview pressed hard in the final minutes, but Boulder held strong. Senior keeper Maisie Creamer, who played all 80 minutes, made multiple stops and ended the night with 9 saves, helping secure the shutout.

Making It Two in a Row

Boulder's win is more than just the points — it's a statement. After going over a decade without beating Fairview, the Panthers have now done it two years in a row. For the seniors, it's a lasting memory. For the team, it's fuel for the rest of the season.

Next up: Boulder hosts Silver Creek on April 1 at Recht Field.
