Early-season match-ups often expose areas for teams to improve, and Boulder boys basketball took full advantage of those lessons in a 62-56 win over Monarch on Tuesday night. After dropping games to Horizon and Prairie View, the Panthers focused on improving communication and building trust. That growth showed in a strong second-half effort to secure the victory.
The game started tight, with Monarch holding the upper hand early. Myers' back-to-back 3-pointers late in the first quarter helped the Coyotes build a 14-9 lead, and they maintained control through halftime, leading 24-19.
Manny Flores
The momentum shifted in Boulder's favor during the fourth quarter. A key defensive play by Wyatt Stamm, who stole the ball and dished to Manny Flores for an easy layup, sparked the Panthers. Moments later, Jacob March converted a reverse layup and added a free throw after being fouled. That sequence gave Boulder a 42-38 lead, which grew to as much as 50-42 before Monarch mounted a late comeback.
Dominic Trudgeon
The Coyotes closed the gap to 54-53 with just over a minute left, but Boulder's composure at the free-throw line sealed the win. Smith and Dominic Trudgeon hit clutch free throws in the final moments to ensure the Panthers improved to 3-4 on the season. Monarch also moved to 3-4.
Cole Morrow
Morrow was the standout performer of the night, scoring 23 points with a mix of drives, jump shots, and 3-pointers. Junior guard Lake Smith contributed 11 points to the Panthers' effort.
