The Boulder High School Varsity Boys Tennis team opened its season with back-to-back home matches at the Centennial Middle School Courts, starting with a convincing win over Horizon High on August 14 before falling in a hard-fought battle against Rocky Mountain High on August 16.
Boulder vs. Horizon (8/14)
The Panthers came out strong in their season opener against the Horizon Hawks, sweeping all seven matches for a decisive victory. Senior Patrick Harvey set the tone at No. 1 Singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win, while fellow senior Bruno Damrauer dominated at No. 2 Singles with a 6-0, 6-1 result. Freshman Lucas Winter impressed in his varsity debut, earning the nod as Boulder's Player of the Match after defeating Horizon's Gautham Ruthirakotti 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 Singles.
In doubles play, Boulder showed depth and chemistry across the board. Calvin Harvey and Cooper Fagan (1 Doubles) won 6-1, 6-0, while Amitai Sebba and freshman partner Alastair battled to a three-set tiebreak win at 2 Doubles (6-1, 4-6, 10-4). The Panthers finished the day with straight-set wins at both 3 Doubles and 4 Doubles, completing the sweep.
Boulder vs. Rocky Mountain (8/16)
Two days later, Boulder returned to the courts to face a strong Rocky Mountain Lobos squad. Despite competitive play across the lineup, the Panthers were unable to find a breakthrough, falling in all seven matches.
Senior Asher Shively was named Boulder's Player of the Match after a spirited performance at 4 Doubles alongside sophomore partner Leo Mora. The pair battled throughout, showing resilience despite a 6-0, 6-2 loss against a tough Rocky Mountain tandem. Several other matches were decided by narrow margins, including the 2 Doubles contest that went to three sets.
Looking Ahead
After an opening week of both highs and challenges, Boulder looks to build on the experience and regroup for their next match. The Panthers will travel to Erie High School on Tuesday, August 19, to take on the Tigers at 4:15 PM.
