Streak Snapped: Boys Lax Takes Down Monarch

For the first time since 2007, Boulder High boys' lacrosse has beaten Monarch. The Panthers fought their way to an 11-8 victory on March 10, 2025, finally ending a 13-game losing streak against their toughest rival.

For years, Monarch had been a roadblock for Boulder. The Coyotes dominated past matchups, winning 13 straight meetings, including a 16-2 win last season and a 21-1 result in 2023. Boulder had come close just once in recent memory, falling 10-6 in 2022, but most games weren't competitive. This time, things were different.

A Long Time Coming

Boulder struck first, scoring the opening goal. Monarch responded with two quick goals, taking a 2-1 lead—their only lead of the game. The Panthers answered right back, scoring twice before the end of the first quarter to go up 3-2. From that point on, Boulder never trailed again.

The game stayed close through halftime at 5-5, but Boulder found another gear in the second half.

Panthers Take Control

The third quarter was where Boulder made its move. The offense clicked, and the defense held strong. Quinton "Q" Hoverstock and Finn Mullen both found the back of the net as the Panthers outscored Monarch 4-2 in the quarter, taking a 9-7 lead into the final period.

With momentum on their side, Boulder didn't let up. Grady Allison and Artie Hoverstock each added goals in the fourth quarter, while the defense held Monarch to just one. The Panthers controlled possession, made smart plays, and sealed the long-awaited win.
