Boys Golf Team Shines Again, Wins Big at Riverdale Ridge Tournament

So. Sam Skubic on #1 at Riverdale GC

On a slightly overcast day with temperatures hovering in the mid-80s, the Boulder Boys Golf Team delivered a strong performance at Riverdale Ridge Golf Course in Brighton. With dry conditions shortening the course, the Panthers took full advantage, showing why they're considered the best team in their league this season.

Leading the charge for Boulder was Sam Skubic (SO), who tied for first with Carter Seis (SR) from Riverdale Ridge, both finishing with a brilliant 66 (-5). The highlight of Skubic's round came on the par-5 7th hole, where he eagled, launching a perfectly placed drive and following it up with a precise approach shot that set him up for a short putt. The eagle was the turning point of Skubic's round, propelling him to a strong finish.

Skubic's round included five birdies and just one bogey, on the par-3 8th hole. His ability to bounce back from that bogey and continue playing aggressive, focused golf was key to his success. His scorecard was a demonstration of precision, as he consistently found the greens in regulation and executed with confidence.

Skubic's Key Stats:

Eagle: 1 (Hole 7)

Birdies: 5 (Holes 5, 6, 13, 15)

Bogeys: 1 (Hole 8)

Front Nine: 32 (-3)

Back Nine: 34 (-2)

Total Score: 66 (-5)

In a tightly contested match, Pierce Johnson (FR) wasn't far behind, tying for third with a stellar 68 (-3). Johnson's performance was particularly remarkable given that he's only a freshman. His ability to remain composed, capitalize on birdie opportunities, and manage mistakes was key to his solid finish. Johnson's round included birdies on holes 3, 7, 10, 12, and 13, but he also had two bogeys on the par-3 5th and par-4 11th holes.

Johnson's Scorecard:

Birdies: 5 (Holes 3, 7, 10, 12, 13)

Bogeys: 2 (Holes 5, 11)

Front Nine: 34 (-1)

Back Nine: 34 (-2)

Total Score: 68 (-3)

The consistency theme continued with Boden Wrenn (SR), whose steady, bogey-free round was capped by a birdie on the par-4 13th hole. Wrenn's 70 (-1) was a testament to his composed approach, and his ability to avoid mistakes helped the Panthers secure the win. Wrenn's round was described as super steady and consistent, with every shot dialed in from tee to green.

Wrenn's Key Stats:

Birdie: 1 (Hole 13)

Bogeys: 0

Front Nine: 35 (E)

Back Nine: 35 (-1)

Total Score: 70 (-1)

Team Results:

Boulder secured a decisive 1st place finish with a team score of 280 (-4), leaving their competition far behind. Riverdale Ridge Ravens came in second at 299 (+15), while Mountain Range claimed third at 312 (+28). Boulder's second team also performed well, finishing in 4th place with a score of 315 (+31), further highlighting the program's depth and strength.

A Team Effort:

The Panthers didn't just rely on one or two golfers to carry them through; it was a complete team effort. From Skubic's eagle on the 7th hole to Johnson's poised birdies on key holes, and Wrenn's flawless, bogey-free round, each player played their part in Boulder's victory. The team's focus and camaraderie were evident, especially as they rallied together during tough stretches, constantly pushing one another.

This win marks Boulder's third victory out of four league matches this season, with their only other result being a 2nd place finish in the remaining match. The consistency the team has shown throughout the season proves they are a serious contender heading into the final stages of the season.

Looking Ahead:

Next up for the Panthers is the League Championships on September 23rd at Legacy Ridge Golf Course. With momentum on their side, Boulder is primed for another strong performance as they aim to end league play with a championship.
