Boulder High's varsity field hockey team kicked off their inaugural season with a strong performance, tying 1-1 against St. Mary's Academy, a team that finished third in the state last year. The match, played at Angevine Middle School, was the first varsity game for Boulder, which has brought together players from across the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD).
The Panthers played a solid defensive game in the first half, holding off several attacks from St. Mary's. Boulder took the lead with a goal from Marley Farrior marking the first goal in the team's varsity history. And Alexandra Rao was named player of the game by Coach Allyson Mullen for her hard work and grit leading the Boulder defense.
St. Mary's Academy managed to equalize late in the game, but Boulder held on to secure a 1-1 draw after overtime in their varsity debut. The team showed great promise against a strong opponent and will look to build on this result as they prepare for their next game at Pine Creek on September 3rd at 4:45 PM.
