Boulder Field Hockey Celebrates Halloween and Lyla Jolly's Birthday with 2-0 Win Over Dakota Ridge
On a crisp Halloween night, the Boulder High Field Hockey team secured a 2-0 victory over Dakota Ridge, adding a special touch to junior Lyla Jolly's birthday. Sophomore Drew Layne earned Player of the Game honors for her impactful performance, capping off a night that combined grit and celebration.
First Half
Boulder took charge from the opening whistle, creating several early chances despite the challenging conditions. The Panthers fired four or five shots on goal in the first quarter, but the Dakota Ridge goalkeeper showcased her skills with a series of strong saves. Boulder earned multiple corners but struggled to convert them into goals. Junior midfielder Courtney Windt controlled the tempo in midfield and narrowly missed a scoring opportunity three minutes into the second quarter.
Katie Ryan
Senior goalkeeper Katie Ryan had little to do in the first half, as most of the action unfolded in the opposing half. The breakthrough came midway through the second quarter when sophomore Louisa Keegan scored after a scramble in the circle, assisted by Layne. Boulder's relentless pressure finally paid off, giving them a deserved 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Boulder doubled their advantage. Windt collected the ball inside the circle, dribbled past a defender, and found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Boulder enjoyed about 80% possession during the first half, using both flanks effectively and generating multiple corner opportunities.
Second Half
The second half began with Dakota Ridge showing more determination, pressing into Boulder's defensive third and earning their first corner of the match. Boulder responded by regaining control and shifting the play back to the Eagles' end, earning two more corners that went unconverted. The third quarter ended with the score still 2-0, in a more balanced period of play.

With 10 minutes left, a Dakota Ridge player was sent off, limiting their chances of a comeback. The final minutes saw both teams battle in a back-and-forth contest, but neither could add to the score. Boulder held steady to secure the 2-0 victory, making Jolly's birthday one to remember.
Next Up
The Panthers will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next game against Pine Creek on Tuesday, November 5 in the semi-finals of the consolation bracket of the Sate Championships.
