Boulder Boys and Girls XC Shine at Pat Patten Invitational
Boulder High School's cross country teams put on a strong showing at the Pat Patten Invitational, held at Viele Lake in Boulder, Colorado, on Saturday, October 5. Competing against some of the top programs in the state, both the boys' and girls' teams performed well, with the boys finishing first overall and the girls securing second.
Girls Race Recap
In the girls' varsity 5k, Calia Vaughn continued her impressive freshman season with a standout performance, finishing 6th overall with a time of 18:35.90. Vaughn was joined by her teammates Rachel Tilton (14th, 19:35.20), Sophia Africa (16th, 19:47.70), Lucy Friend (21st, 20:06.80), and Nora Quatrochi (23rd, 20:10.20), to secure Boulder's 2nd-place finish with 70 points.
Mountain Vista took the top spot with a dominant 17 points, while Fairview rounded out the top three with 86 points. Boulder's average time of 19:39 and a 1:34 split between their top five finishers proved their depth and consistency on the course.
Boys Race Recap
The Boulder boys' team captured first place in their varsity 5k race, edging out Rock Canyon and Mountain Vista with a 55-point finish. Leading the way for Boulder was Lucas Wik, who crossed the finish line in 5th place with a time of 16:09. Wik was closely followed by Toby Wong (6th, 16:11), Cooper Draves (9th, 16:18), and Ulysses Paulsrud (11th, 16:22). Jack Rhodes (24th, 16:48) rounded out the top five to give Boulder a narrow victory over Rock Canyon.
With an average time of 16:22 and a tight 39-second split between their top five, the Panthers showcased their strength in a field of competitive runners.
