Seniors Shine as Field Hockey Wins 3-1 on Senior Morning

Boulder Field Hockey Shines on Senior Morning with 3-1 Victory Over Cheyenne Mountain

In a dramatic Senior Morning showdown at Angevine Middle School, Boulder Field Hockey team turned the tables on Cheyenne Mountain, avenging an early-season loss with a thrilling 3-1 victory. Despite the early start time, the Panthers were ready from the opening whistle, fueled by their senior class, and improved their record to 7-5-2.

Boulder wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Just minutes into the game, senior Claire Burkhard delivered a perfect assist to junior Tenley Layne, who slotted the ball past the Cheyenne Mountain goalie for the opening goal. But the visitors quickly responded, tying the game at 1-1 before the quarter ended.

The intensity continued into the second half, and early in the fourth quarter, Boulder's seniors capped off the morning with a special moment. Burkhard scored the third goal off an assist from fellow senior Oakley Knauss, sealing the 3-1 win for the Panthers and delivering a perfect send-off for the senior class.

All six seniors—Claire Burkhard, Caroline Clemensen, Oakley Knauss, Lauren Janecek, Marley Farrior, and Katie Ryan—earned Player of the Game honors for their leadership and contributions. Goalkeeper Katie Ryan was a steady presence in net and the seniors' energy and teamwork were on full display as they powered the Panthers to victory in front of a packed home crowd.

Playoff Implications:

Boulder is currently ranked 10th in the field of 16 for the state playoffs. A win on Tuesday against the 6-6-1 Denver East team could potentially boost their ranking into the top 8, which would grant the Panthers a coveted home game in the first round of the playoffs. With so much on the line, Boulder will need to maintain their momentum as they close out the regular season.

Next Up:

Boulder will take on Denver East away on Tuesday, October 22nd, at 4:15 PM, with their sights set on securing a top-8 seed and a home playoff game.
