Another day, another overtime game for Boulder Field Hockey. Seems like these ladies love pressure. On Tuesday against the Poudre Stars, the team knotted the game with no time left on the clock, and it ended in a 1-1 tie. Twenty-four hours later, Boulder found itself in another tight battle with the Dakota Ridge Eagles, but this time, things would be different.

From the opening whistle, the Boulder side was on their front foot. Perhaps the draw the night before added to their hunger for a win, or maybe it was the pink flying around the field and on the sidelines that lifted the team's energy.
The Boulder side moved the ball around the field surgically and fought hard in every tackle. The Eagles were having trouble mounting any meaningful attack, and the purple and white (and pink) took advantage. Spending most of the game in the attacking third, the Boulder sideline knew a goal was soon to come, but it was not to be. The half ended 0-0, but the scoreline didn't tell the full story.

The second half began as the first ended. Boulder pressed forward with hard challenges in the middle of the field, solid defense, and crisp passing. When the Eagles did mount an occasional attack, the Boulder defense handled it with ease. The offense fired shots from both sides of the cage, but Dakota Ridge's goalie, Annie Diesslin, had a career game kicking, diving, and swatting away all of Boulder's efforts. And then, regulation time ran out. Overtime.

Coming out of the OT break, the Boulder faithful knew this was not going to end as the night before had. With determination on their faces, Boulder found another gear and was not going to let this one get away from them. They would not settle for a draw. Six minutes into overtime, the breakthrough came. Well inside the circle, Tenley Layne slotted a pass from the left side of the goal to a waiting Marley Farrior, who took it one time on a backhand sweep. Diesslin wasn't getting to this one.
Final: Boulder 1, Dakota Ridge 0.
Congratulations, ladies.
