Boulder Boys Soccer Crushes Monarch 9-0, Joss Hair Shines in Breakout Performance
On a crisp, clear evening with a light breeze at kickoff, Boulder High School boys soccer rolled to a dominant 9-0 victory over Monarch, pushing their unbeaten record to 6-0. Senior Joss Hair had his breakout performance of the season, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists, earning Player of the Match honors. With a lively crowd of 300 cheering them on, Boulder set the pace from the opening whistle, putting on a clinic in both offense and defense.
Early Command:
While Monarch came out with early energy, Boulder quickly took control. Logan Coughlin opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a well-placed finish. Just four minutes later, Mikel Mackey doubled Boulder's advantage, slotting it past the Monarch keeper to make it 2-0.
The back line of Zac Sheinbaum, Devon Lyons, Santiago Martinez Garcia, and Logan Coughlin controlled possession, while Connor Sims was pivotal in midfield, breaking the lines and distributing the ball. By the 15th minute, Boulder had Monarch on the ropes. Xander Sevian and Joss Hair added two more goals, sending the Panthers into halftime with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Second-Half Highlights:
The second half continued in the same vein. Joss Hair and Xander Sevian struck again within the first 10 minutes, extending Boulder's lead to 6-0 before coach Hardy Kalisher continued to rotate the lineup and give the bench valuable playing time. Boulder kept up the pressure, contributing three more goals in the closing minutes by David Bojorquez, Emmerson Altman (PK) and JT Cunningham.
A memorable moment came late in the second half when Boulder nearly delivered a highlight-reel play that could have landed on SportsCenter's web gems. Off a well-struck corner kick, Kirby Wolf rose to head the ball back across the goal. David Bojorquez elevated and executed a stunning bicycle kick that found the back of the net. The crowd erupted, but the goal was heartbreakingly called back for offside. Even without the goal counting, the skill on display had the crowd buzzing.
