It took 41 minutes for Boulder High boys soccer to blink in 2026, and even then, it was Centaurus who blinked first. On the road under the lights on September 3, the Panthers played a tight, scoreless first half before turning the game into exactly the kind of statement they wanted to make - two goals in nine second-half minutes and a defense that bent but never broke. The game was very physical and a good test for the first game of the season.
A Half of Patience
For 40 minutes, this looked like a chess match. Boulder worked hard to gain possession, but only occasionally testing Centaurus's back line but coming away with nothing to show for it at the break. No panic, just a team content to wait for the door to open.
The Second-Half Surge
It didn't take long once the second half started. Senior
Misio Usher broke the deadlock, converting on the games only PK, and junior
Vedad Mehidic picked up the assist that made it happen. Once Boulder led, Centaurus continued to press but got caught on a quick counter when
Armin Redzic sprinted past a Warrior defend and buried a banger the keep had no chance on.
The Last Line Held
None of it mattered without the other end of the field holding up its part, and senior goalkeeper
Austin Cornacchione made sure it did - seven saves, a clean sheet, and the game ball as Boulder's Player of the Match. Final: Boulder 2, Centaurus 0.
What's Next
The Panthers bring their 1-0 start home to Recht Field to open the home slate against Fossil Ridge on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 PM.
