In a thrilling showdown on Friday, Boulder High School's football team pulled off a 14-13 win over Lakewood at Lakewood High School, securing their first conference victory of the season. The game went down to the wire, with Boulder's defense making a critical stop in the final minutes to deny Lakewood's final push.
The game opened with Boulder grabbing a 7-6 lead in the second quarter when Myles Robbins broke a 51 yard TD run to put Boulder up. Lakewood responded with a rushing touchdown and a successful PAT just before halftime, taking a 13-7 lead. Boulder worked hard to get its offensive going in the second quarter but could not manage another score. Its defensive keep the game within reach heading into halftime.
The second half saw the Panthers regain momentum. Senior Andre Drapeau capped off a drive with a two-yard rushing touchdown, and Asher Baruch's PAT gave Boulder a 14-13 lead. The defense stepped up from there, led by key contributions from Ramses Schorr and Alejandro Floripe, and kept Lakewood off the scoreboard through the final minutes.
Lakewood had a chance to win late in the fourth quarter, taking the ball to Boulder's 8-yard line. However, Boulder's defense held strong, forcing a turnover on downs to seal the victory.
Offensively, Boulder was led by senior Andre Drapeau, who rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Robbins, who added 68 yards on the ground along with his score. Quarterback Henry Sharpe threw for 51 yards on 5 of 10 passing. Boulder finished with 240 total yards of offense, compared to Lakewood's 262, but it was the timely defensive stops that made the difference.
The win improves Boulder's record to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. They look to build on this momentum next week when they face Mountain Range (1-5) on October 10.
