Boulder vs. Broomfield is always a circled date on the calendar. Since the Front Range Conference disbanded a year ago, the two programs meet annually in a high-profile non-league clash. This year's game carried extra weight—Broomfield ended Boulder's undefeated season in last year's state semifinal, an overtime heartbreak the Panthers had not forgotten. Boulder hadn't beaten the Eagles since 2021, and Thursday night at Recht Field was their chance for payback.
First Half: Quick Start, Early Punches
Despite changes in the starting lineup from a year ago, the La Familia spirit was clear. Boulder came out flying, using their knowledge of the home field to put Broomfield on the back foot right away. Barely 90 seconds in, Jesus Castillo pounced on a chance at the top of the box and ripped a low drive past the keeper. Just like that, it was 1–0 Panthers, and the Broomfield sideline was stunned.

Boulder kept pressing, and ten minutes later, senior Hayden Neale slipped a through ball to JT Cunningham. Cunningham battled through two defenders and found just enough space to sneak a shot inside the near post for a 2–0 lead. The Panthers controlled the half from there and went into the break firmly in charge.

Second Half: Sealing the Statement
The old saying that "2–0 is the most dangerous lead" was on everyone's mind after halftime, and Broomfield came out pressing in the first ten minutes. But Boulder weathered the surge and struck on the counter. Castillo flipped a ball over the defense for Levi Turner, who sprinted clear and tucked a far-post finish to make it 3–0.

From there, Boulder took over. At the 62nd minute, senior captain Zac Sheinbaum uncorked one of his trademark long throws into the box. Neale settled the ball cleanly and buried it bottom left. Moments later, Sheinbaum did it again—another long throw into the penalty area, this time finding Castillo, who hammered home his second of the night for 5–0.
Coach Hardy Kalisher rotated the bench in the closing minutes, and the Panthers saw out the match in style.
Defensive Stand and Sweet Revenge
Senior Joey Schwab and Austin Cornacchione shared time in net and, along with a gritty back line, earned the shutout. "Beating Broomfield is sweet," one parent said on the sideline. "Shutting them out is sweeter."
