The Boulder High girls' swimming team continued their solid start to the season with a 176-135 win over Erie High School on December 9. With key individual victories, reliable relay performances, and contributions across the roster, the Panthers showed steady progress in their second meet of the season.
Chester and Quatrochi Lead the Way
Senior Margaret Chester picked up wins in the 50 freestyle (25.27 seconds) and the 500 freestyle (5:30.80). Her commanding performance in the 500 freestyle, finishing more than 30 seconds ahead of the field, provided a highlight for Boulder. Sophomore Lyla Quatrochi added a win in the 200 freestyle (2:13.86) and placed third in the 100 butterfly (1:12.59), scoring key points in individual events and relays.
Relay Teams Deliver Consistent Results
Boulder's relay teams performed well, winning all three relay events. The 200 medley relay team finished with a time of 2:02.26, comfortably ahead of Erie's top team. The 400 freestyle relay team capped off the meet with a strong swim, finishing in 4:00.82.
Exciting Races Highlight Competitive Effort
Several close races kept the meet competitive. In the 200 individual medley, Erie's Virginia Footdale narrowly edged Boulder's Iliana Brown, with times of 2:29.50 and 2:30.06, respectively. Brown's strong finish helped Boulder stay in contention for points throughout the event.
The 100 butterfly also provided a competitive showing, with Erie's Michaela Linzy winning in 1:06.73. Boulder's Reghan Jones (1:11.16) and Quatrochi (1:12.59) followed closely, ensuring Boulder stayed on the scoreboard. In the 100 backstroke, Sundberg (1:09.48) and Brantz (1:11.72) earned second and third place, trailing Footdale's winning time of 1:03.64.
Depth Makes an Impact
Boulder's ability to place multiple swimmers in scoring positions made a significant difference in the final outcome. In the 200 freestyle, Quatrochi, Tromey (2:15.36), and Brantz (2:19.39) took the top three spots, sweeping the event for Boulder. The 100 breaststroke saw Jones (1:15.26) secure a win, while teammates DeBoom (1:28.29) and Lull (1:31.43) added points with third- and fourth-place finishes.
Diving Adds to the Team's Success
On the diving board, Sylvia Pew contributed with a score of 164.75, earning second place behind Erie's Caitlyn McCollum, who scored 179.45 points. Pew's performance was another example of Boulder's balanced contributions across all events.
Building Momentum
With two meets completed, Boulder is showing steady improvement. The team's ability to compete across a variety of events and capitalize on key opportunities will be crucial as the season progresses. Their next meet provides another chance to continue developing and building on their early-season success.
